SynchWeb / ISPyB Guide

ISPyB/SynchWeb at LS-CAT

ISPyB is the laboratory information management system (LIMS) LS-CAT uses to keep track of your experiment, from the moment you ship samples through to the automated processing results that come out of your data collection. SynchWeb is the web interface to ISPyB — it's the page you'll actually spend your time in, at synchweb.ls-cat.org.

Rollout in progress

LS-CAT is in the process of commissioning ISPyB/SynchWeb alongside the MXCuBE3 data collection software, beginning with 21-ID-D and 21-ID-F, with 21-ID-G scheduled to follow. Some screens described in this guide may look slightly different, or a feature may not be enabled yet, on the beamline you're using — check with your Local Contact if something here doesn't match what you see.

With ISPyB/SynchWeb you can:

Before you arrive

Create sample shipments, register your proteins and samples, and track your dewars to the beamline.

During your visit

Watch your data collections in real time — view diffraction images, crystal snapshots, and automated data reduction results.

After your visit

Review historical experiments and analysis results, write up an experiment report, and export your metadata back to your home lab.

What's in this guide

This guide walks through ISPyB/SynchWeb in roughly the order you'll use it: selecting your proposal, preparing a shipment, registering proteins and samples, and then reviewing data as it's collected and processed. Use the contents list below, or the Next/Previous links at the bottom of each page, to move through it.

Trouble logging in?

If SynchWeb appears unavailable or the page loads mostly blank, try clearing your browser cache first. If that doesn't fix it, contact LS-CAT staff at administrator@ls-cat.org.
